SAMPLE RECIPE: Golden Milk ‘Calm Down’ Latte

GLUTEN-FREE | VEGETARIAN | PREP TIME: 5 MINUTES | COOK TIME: 5 MINUTES | SERVES 1 GENEROUSLY

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the milk, turmeric, cinnamon, ashwagandha, black pepper, ginger, and nutmeg. Cook, stirring occasionally, until heated through.

2. Remove from the heat, and add the maple syrup (if using dairy milk) right before drinking. Nondairy milks tend to be sweet enough without it.

3. Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy anytime, but especially before bed.

Best for Vata types, this latte can still be used by other doshas for calming excess Vata. Golden Milk has gotten a lot of play in recent years, because turmeric has been shown to be helpful for the nervous system, and it’s antibacterial, digestive, and anti-inflammatory. Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic herb that helps the body function well in times of stress.

INGREDIENTS: 1.5 Cups Organic Dairy or Nondairy Milk 1/4 Teaspoon Ground Turmeric 1/8 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon 5-finger Pinch Powdered Ashwagandha Root 3-finger Pinch Freshly Ground Black Pepper 3-finger Pinch Ground Ginger 3-finger Pinch Freshly Ground Nutmeg Dash of Maple Syrup or 3-finger Pinch of Coconut Sugar (if using dairy milk)
